Important Information for Guests Traveling to the United Kingdom
Dear Guest,
We would like to share important details regarding the new Electronic Visa (E-Visa) and Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) requirements for guests planning to travel to the United Kingdom. To ensure a smooth journey, please complete the necessary procedures prior to your trip by following the steps below:
1. E-Visa Process for Residents of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, and Wales):
- As of January 1, 2025, the United Kingdom will discontinue the use of physical residence cards (BRP/BRC cards) and fully transition to the Electronic Visa (E-Visa) system. This initiative aims to facilitate the digital management and verification of residence permits for travelers to the UK.
- Physical residence cards will no longer be valid. Instead, residence permit holders must register with the UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) system to access and manage their residence information digitally.
- BRP/BRC residence cards expiring on or after December 31, 2024, will be valid for physical use until March 31, 2025.
- To register, please create a digital account at www.gov.uk/evisa. This account will enable you to manage your residence permit online.
- The E-Visa system applies to all residence card holders and those with a long-term stay visa (D-type visa)
- Note: Citizens of the United Kingdom and Ireland are exempt from this requirement.
2. Who Needs to Obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)?
ETA will become mandatory for passengers who previously traveled visa-free to the UK but do not hold a residence permit. This includes travelers visiting the UK directly or transiting through the country.
- Travelers who can currently visit the UK visa-free (excluding EU citizens) can apply for an ETA starting November 27, 2024. The application will become mandatory from January 8, 2025.
- For EU citizens, ETA applications will begin on March 5, 2025, and will become mandatory on April 2, 2025.
Passengers subject to ETA will still be required to obtain an ETA even if they are using the UK for transit purposes (without passing through border control). - For detailed information and to apply for an ETA, visit: Check when you can get an electronic travel authorization (ETA) - GOV.UK. This link provides information on ETA transition dates and the nationalities subject to this requirement.
- You can check your visa and ETA requirements directly here.
- Note: Citizens of the United Kingdom and Ireland, as well as diplomatic passport holders eligible for visa-free travel to the UK, are exempt from the ETA requirement.
Kind regards,
