Do You Need a Visa to Travel to Moldova?

Although Moldova is not part of the European Union, European Union citizens can visit the country without any visa requirements. In addition to that, Turkish citizens, Switzerland citizens also don’t need any visa to enter the country. European Union citizens and Turkish citizens can enter the country by using their passport or machine-readable national ID card.

The visa-free countries are listed below. Citizens of these countries can enter Moldova without any visa and stay up to 90 days per 180 days. The visa-free entry is only possible for touristic activities in the country. Individuals who want a long-term stay or who want to work in Moldova require a different type of Moldova Visa.

Moldova e-Visa

In 2015, the Moldovan Government started a new and easier visa application process for foreign citizens. Accordingly, Moldova e-Visa offers an easy visa application process for individuals who want to visit Moldova for a short time.

With Moldova e-Visa, it is possible to get type, type B and type C visas for this country.

Moldova Airport Transit Visa (Type A)

Moldova airport transit visa enables individuals to access the international airport transit area until these individuals board on the flight for their destination.

Moldova Transit Visa (Type B)

Moldova transit visa enables individuals to enter the Republic of Moldova up to 5 days for using Moldova as a transit country to reach their main destination. This type of visa might be a suitable option for transit passengers who have a few days gap between their connecting flights.

Moldova Short-Stay Visa for Tourism (Type C)

Moldova short-stay visa is the tourist visa for citizens who need to get a visa before entering the country. When foreign individuals get this visa, they can stay in the country for up to 90 days in any 180 days period. This visa can be used for tourism as well as scientific and academic event participation, and sports activities.

Moldova Short-Stay Visa for Business (Type C)

Moldova Short-Stay Visa for Medical Treatment (Type C)

Moldova Long-Stay Visa (Type D)

Moldova Visa Application

The documents necessary for Moldova Visa application are as follows:

• Online application form
• Two passport-size 35mm x 45mm photos (the photos must not be older than six months)
• Scan of the passport
• A passport valid at least for three months before planned departure date
• Round-trip flight tickets
• Hotel booking
• Travel insurance to cover the entire trip
• A letter stating the visiting reasons which is also known as cover letter
• Status of income
• Bank statement of at least six months

Additional documents might be asked from different individuals:

Students:

• A documentation showing the student status
• Sponsorship documents for those who cannot support himself/herself during the stay

Employees:

• Employment contract
• A letter from the company approving that the employee will return to the job

Retired:

• Proof of pension

Moldova Visa Rules

Citizens of various countries can enter Moldova without any visa. However, citizens of countries that are not eligible for visa-free entry need to follow these rules for obtaining a visa for Moldova.

• The passport which is used for less than 10 years and which has two empty pages for the purpose of stamping the visa
• The passport must have a validification period of minimum 3 months that does not expire prior to date of planned departure
• Individuals who have not yet completed the age of 18 need singed form for visa application which the signature can belong to a parent of the minor or the legal guardian

Moldova Visa Requirements

Individuals that have a Schengen Visa do not need to apply for a Moldova Visa. Also, countries that have visa-free access to Moldova can travel with their passport or integrated national ID cards. The citizens of countries that require a Moldova Visa must do their application and present the necessary documents.
