What is a Passport?
Passport is an internationally accepted identity document used while traveling abroad. Issued by authorized institutions on demand. People can apply for a passport online or through institutions. Passport applications and fees are regulated by the law. Passport fee and to be 25 years old condition is required for some passports.
Passport Types
There are several types of passports depending on the status of the bearer in their home country. For Turkish citizens these are:
- Regular passport (of maroon color)
- Special passport (green)
- Diplomatic passport (black)
- Service passport (grey)
Every citizen of Turkey can apply for a regular passport after meeting the requirements. To apply for green, black and grey passports, special requirements are needed.

To apply for a passport, it is required to make an appointment. Opening the page, passport-type and place should be chosen. Information details must be accurate and complete. Preparing the necessary documents, applicants go to the related institution and complete their applications. Appointments can also be made through phone (ALO 199).
Passport Requirements for Turkish Citizens
Required documents can vary depending on the passport type. However, the documents below are valid for all types of passports.
- Identity document
- Biometrical photograph
- Total passport fee
- Old passport (only for the ones with one)
- Letter of consent for under 18
Before applying for passport, police will need the applicant’s fingerprint.
For How Long Can I Use My Passport?
While paying for the fee, applicants pay according to the selected passport type. Validity shows how long a passport can be used by someone. Countries issue visas according to passport validity. Some countries accept passports with 3 months, 1 month, 6 months or a year validity.
How Much Should I Pay for Turkish Passport?

How to Extend a Turkish Passport?
For the extension process, citizens are required to apply their provincial and district offices. They can make an appointment through the civil registry or they can get detailed information on ALO 199. Apart from the necessary documents required for passport application, the old passport is needed to be taken to the civil registry.
How Much Should I Pay to Extend My Turkish Passport?
There is not different pricing for extension. Fees for regular passport types are applied for the extension as well.
